The Great Hollow Photographers Club (GHPC)
The Great Hollow Photographers Club is hosting the fifth annual Great Hollow Juried Art Show. Formed by members of the local community who have a shared interest in nature photography, the goals of the GHPC are to use photography to support the educational and conservation missions of Great Hollow Nature Preserve, improve the photographic skills of members through the sharing of knowledge and experience, and to provide a forum for members to engage in their hobby.
The GHPC is open to all ages and skill levels, and both video and still photography. Formed in 2017, it has held photography workshops, photography tours and hikes, created Great Hollow Calendars and has organized the five annual Juried Art Shows. Meetings are held the first Thursday of every even numbered-month, at 6:30 either on zoom or at the main building at Great Hollow. Art Show Jurying Committee:
- Carolyn Cohen (Painter) – Carolyn Cohen is a painter who makes her home in Sherman, Conn. She graduated Mass College of Art in Boston after attending Museum of Fine Arts High School Scholarship classes after school for 3 years. She has studied at SUNY, Washington Art Association and received her masters at Western Conn. She has taught and shown her art in Mass, Vt and Conn. Since retirement from teaching in 2001, her paintings have been shown in Washington Depot, Newtown, Brookfield, White Silo in Sherman, Ridgefield and Danbury. Currently her artwork can be seen at Gallery 25 in New Milford.

- Linda Hubbard (Photographer) A Sherman resident for the past 8 years, she is former Co-owner RiverWinds Gallery in Beacon, NY, former President of BeaconArts and former Chair of Art Along the Hudson. Retired from IBM, she has studied photography under Allison Shaw and the Maine Photography Workshop. Her work has been shown in Mass, Vermont, New York and Conn. Currently, her photographs can be seen at Land Gallery in Pawling, NY. In addition to chairing the Great Hollow Art Shows, Hubbard also curates the art shows at the Sherman Library and co-chairs the Sherman Artists group.

- John O’Donnell (Photographer) John O'Donnell, a resident of Sherman, is the Principal at Atelier VGI in Manhattan, a private art dealer, specializing in emerging contemporary fine art. Atelier VGI publishes limited edition fine art photographic prints and artist photobooks and is a leader in the field of bespoke editioning. John also serves as the Co-Chairman of HBSCNY's Art Experts Symposia, which produces art-related educational programs and events for art collectors and enthusiasts.

Jurors for 2022
Paintings: Sylvia Hierro - Sylvia Hierro paintings range from the traditional Plein Air landscapes to vibrant collages. They are filled with color, movement and feelings. Hierro has a BA degree in Art from Marymount Manhattan College and a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University. She has taught art both on the elementary and high school levels and was the Fine Arts Chair for twenty-three years at Canterbury School in New Milford, CT. Now a full-time artist, Sylvia shows her work in New York and Connecticut galleries and resides in Sherman with her family.

Photographs: Neil Zobler - Neil Zobler is a passionate photographer who started developing his own images while in high school. He loves the ability to capture a moment in time that will never return. His favorite photographic styles are landscapes, street, and environmental portraits. He likes strong, saturated colors which are visually exciting. He also loves black and white images, which make you focus on the photographic quality of the image. Neil has received numerous awards and honorable mentions in the Photographic Society of America (PSA), the New England Camera Club Council (NECCC) competitions, the Great Hollow Photographers Club Juried Art Shows and was the Judges Chair for Candlewood Camera Club for 5 years. Neil and his wife Ana formerly of New Fairfield, currently reside in Chile and New York City.

Great Hollow Nature Preserve & Ecological Research Center

Great Hollow Nature Preserve & Ecological Research Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to land and wildlife conservation, applied ecological research, experiential environmental education, and outdoor recreational opportunities for the public enjoyment of nature. In 2015, the organization acquired the land which was once owned by the prominent lawyer, Walter Gordon Merritt. Upon his death in 1968, he left a portion of his 1000 acres that he called Great Hollow to Wesleyan University for “charitable, scientific and educational uses and purposes”. The property was subsequently conveyed to the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut, which operated the Great Hollow Wilderness School on the property for many years.
In 2015, the Great Hollow Nature Preserve & Ecological Research Center was founded and acquired the property with the intent to continue honoring Mr. Merritt’s wish that the land be available to the public and used by students and teachers for education and scientific research.

The Trail Camera had hoped to enter the show, but missed the deadline for submissions.... but they are being posted so you can see a sample of the great fun that goes on at the preserve.
