LAND Gallery in Pawling, New York is relaunching and expanding the gallery for 2022 with new photographs, paintings and other curated artisan items. New photographs include Jane Haslam’s “Impressions Collection” and a new show “Favorites” by the group of LAND Gallery Photographers. The gallery is also expanding to include watercolors by Kelly Edwards, jewelry by Karen Ostrom and pottery by Ann Heywood plus Ed Bryan’s woodworking. The relaunch at LAND Gallery starts on May 7 with an opening 1-4pm. This is also Pawling Second Saturday’s “Mom’s Stroll” 4 - 7pm for which LAND Gallery will be serving champagne and chocolates and (weather permitting) a photo booth with prints to take home. Kelly Edwards will also give an artist talk on June 4, 2022 1 - 2pm. For more information, visit www.landgalleryonline.com.
“Favorites” is a new series of photographs by LAND Gallery photographers Marco Catini, Julian Diamond, Nicky Ebbage, Kelly Goodhart, Justin Goodhart, Linda T Hubbard and Genevieve St Louis Jan. Each photographer has chosen some of their favorite images to welcome sunshine and warmer weather.
The gallery is expanding to include paintings by Watercolor and Mixed Media Artist Kelly Edwards. Her paintings are inspired by nature and the watercolor medium itself. “Becoming an artist has taught me about giving up total control, allowing a piece to come to life with its own voice, and giving myself the opportunity to create freely.” says Edwards. She typically begins a piece with a general idea of what she wants to portray, and then allows the piece to develop without too much interaction.
Ann Heywood creates pottery also inspired by nature with weathered and imperfect surfaces. She enjoys experimenting with different clay bodies, glazes, and firing techniques and with the interaction of light glazes with a dark clay body. Her vases, soap dishes, candle holders and more are a welcome addition to the LAND Gallery offerings.
Another nature inspired artist is Karen Ostrom who creates jewelry using natural elements with silver, sea glass and beach pebbles. Ostrom collects sea glass and beach pebbles that have been tumbled and shaped by the waves and tides on a beach just waiting to be found. She then crafts them into earrings, pendants, and necklaces.
To complement their designs, Ed Bryan from Hudson Valley Woodworking is showcasing the full range of his wood working talents. His work uses local wood, bringing new life to fallen trees, repurposed and reclaimed wood. Each piece is handmade and carefully crafted. He uses no duplication tools and is proud to say that each is truly one of a kind.
Jane Haslam has now closed her studio space and is no longer offering studio services. She will still be taking bookings for location shoots/event/photo restoration etc., but is no longer offering studio services. The ex-studio space allows the gallery to expand and offer additional high quality curated works by local artisans. To compliment this new space, Haslam is introducing a new series “Impressions”, a collection of landscape photographs utilizing intentional blur. The blur softens detail and enhances the mood by rendering the land into tone, line and color. A recent trip to the ocean gave Haslam the opportunity to explore this new technique and create images that take your breath away.
